Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter HD is a fantasy first-person shooter developed by Vogster Online and Tatem Games for the PlayStation 3 console. The game was announced on September 3, 2013 and released on the PlayStation Network one week later on September 10 for $12.99. On December 18, 2013, it was finally released in Europe, and an updated version was released on the American market. The game is a remake of the classic Carnivores hunting game released in 1998 for PC, and has received mixed reviews from critics and fans alike.
A PC revamp of the game distributed by Digital Dreams Entertainment and Tatem Games ,Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter Reborn, was released on Steam on May 27, 2015.

The storyline for Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter HD is essentially the same as the previous incarnation of the game. The official website features a provides this basic storyline:
'In the near future advances in engineering made interstellar travel possible, bringing forth the era of space exploration. Along with many planets the mankind has discovered was a world very similar to Earth circa Jurassic period. The planet had a lot of islands populated with huge and wild animals, which supposedly looked just like Earth's long extinct dinosaurs. Soon enough exploration of the planet began. 'DinoHunt, Inc' was established, and the company started to provide hunting trips for everyone wealthy and bold enough to take on mighty creatures inhabiting the planet.
You are one of those hunters. The game brings you to an ancient environment and lets you hunt for the most dangerous and the strongest creatures in the universe. Get a hunting license, pack up your gear, choose an island to hunt and embark on the adventure of a lifetime!'
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
The gameplay is basically the same as the original games, while updated for its current platform with some new additions. Originally, killing dinosaurs would earn the player cash rewards, but after the most recent update the cash currency has been replaced with gems used for buying dinosaur licenses and equipment. Killing dinosaurs will also add points to the player's toal score, which allows more difficult areas to be unlocked.
Instead of having seperate forms of the mandatory equipment, the player is outfitted with a new piece of equipment called the Gadget . The Gadget contains a wind indicator (which blinks red when the player is detected by smell), a compass, binoculars , the dinosaur call , and the radar .
In Carnivores, a dropship would immediately come to retrieve a downed dinosaur. In Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter HD, the player must walk up to the dinosaur to obtain points and call in the dropship to retrieve it. However, the carnivores can now eat the dinosaurs the player brings down, which denies any chance of the trophy being retrieved.
The killing animations of the dinosaurs have been removed, the screen now simply fades to black with a 'Game Over' sign; and now all dinosaurs can kill the player.

Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter HD has recieved mixed to negative reviews since its release. IGN has currently rated it 4/10, praising the majestic environments and realistic dinosaurs, but criticizing the very sluggish gameplay and lack of variety. The game's revelation and launch was highly controversial with the Carnivores fanbase, as many bemoaned the way the game lacked many of the key elements of the other entries in the Carnivores series.

Genetically Mutated Dinosaurs are dinosaurs in Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter Reborn whose genetic structure has been tampered with in order to create interest for DinoHunt Corp. These mutated dinosaurs usually sport vivid or different colors than their normal variants, as well as increased body sizes and exaggerated physical features. Officially, DinoHunt Corp. denies any claims of experimenting with the dinosaur species on FMM UV-32, and has cleared all of its employees of any alleged wrongdoing.

Mutated Dinosaur Variants[edit | edit source]
Stegosaurus[edit | edit source]
In addition to increased size and weight, the mutated Stegosaurus features a different color pattern than the normal variant. The mutated Stegosaurus is a lighter shade of brown with a dark splotched brown pattern, similar to an earth giraffe, with bright green eyes. On the top of the animal, but not on the sides or undersides, a series of vivid orange colors show through cracks near and under its scales, giving it a somewhat pyrotechnic look, which is similar to the mutant Ankylosaurus. In lines and cracks on the Stegosaurus's back plates, the same orange lines appear.
Ankylosaurus[edit | edit source]
Of all the mutated dinosaurs, the mutated Ankylosaurus is perhaps the most easily recognized as a mutant. In addition to its enormous size, the mutated Ankylosaurus sports elongated spikes and horns on its head and body. It also has a massive 'sledgehammer tail', which ends in a gigantic, flattened tail club. The mutated Ankylosaurus is a lighter shade of brown than its normal variant, and sports vibrant orange scales reflecting through its armor, giving it a semi-volcanic appearance.
Parasaurolophus[edit | edit source]
By comparison, a mutated Parasaurolophus' appearance is very tame, and from a distance can easily be mistaken for a normal Parasaurolophus. The mutated Parasaurolophus is dark brown with a cream underside, and features many gold and orange stripe patterns decorating its hide. The spine of the mutated dinosaur is a long, narrow golden line with side branches of yellow patterning. The head, especially around the eyes, is highly decorated with yellow, creating a sort of crown-like appearance.
Ceratosaurus[edit | edit source]
The mutated Ceratosaurus is quite easily recognized as a mutant. It sports vivid gold scales all over its body, with bright green/blue stripes and patterns covering its hide, focusing near the animal's osteoderms. The short, knobby, bony osteoderm plates on the back of a normal Ceratosaurus have been transformed into elongated spines on the mutated variant. The mutated Ceratosaurus also features taller hornlets and a taller, sharper nose horn. The mutated Ceratosaurus has green eyes, and also darker colored teeth. Dark blotches appear more toward the underside of the animal, while light green ones form near the top. The claws, horns, and skull ridges of the animal are all silver-colored
Triceratops[edit | edit source]
The mutated Triceratops' appearance is relatively tame in comparison to other mutated dinosaurs. It sports a slightly elongated nose horn, piercing blue eyes, and is crowned with a vibrant red head and frill, with hints of brown and yellow. It's body is lighter green in color, with yellow spots covering its underside. All over its body, especially near the top, the cracks between scales show a yellow coloration.
Tyrannosaurus[edit | edit source]
The mutated Tyrannosaurus boasts increased size and weight, in addition to an enlarged skull ridge. The skull ridge of the mutant Tyrannosaurus reaches all the way behind its eyes, giving the back of its head a fat, brainy appearance. The mutated Tyrannosaurus is dark grey, with thin, silver stripes covering its body. The dinosaur is crowned with a pale grey top jaw from which menacing red eyes scan the landscape for food.
